EA: We don’t expect Battlefield 3 to beat Modern Warfare 3

There has been a lot of mudslinging and smack talking between the heads of EA and Activision, where EA folks have repeatedly stated that Battlefield 3 is designed to take down Modern Warfare 3 and that Call of Duty will be over in 2-3 years.

That’s EA when they’re speaking in general to create hype around their product.

However, the tone is quite different when they’re talking to investors and shareholders.

EA CFO Eric Brown recently told a group of investors that they don’t expect Battlefield 3 to surpass Modern Warfare.

Brown said: “Just to be clear, the [Call of Duty] franchise did about 23 million units worldwide.

We don’t expect to surpass them with this year’s Battlefield 3, just to be very clear.” To borrow the phrase from Brown, “just to be very clear”, no one really expected Battlefield 3 to beat Modern Warfare 3 in terms of units sold, but it will most certainly give it a run for its money.

Many industry analysts expect Battlefield 3 sales to top 10 million, and the game is off to a great start, if recent pre-order numbers are any indication: Battlefield 3 has been pre-ordered 1.25 million times to date, with a month and a half left until game launch.

[h=2]Battlefield 3 to require online pass?[/h][h=2][/h][h=2][/h]
There have been some rumors circulating that Battlefield 3 might require an online pass of sorts for console players to play online.

And online pass is usually a code included in the game, and means that players who buy games used will not be able to play online.

Instead, they’ll have to fork over some cash (usually $5 to $10), in order to play online.

This system has been used quite often lately by publishers, in an effort to curb their losses from used game sales.

According to DICE Patrick Bach, Battlefield 3 will support some sort of online pass system, as he told GamerZines, where second hand players would have to pay an additional fee for online multiplayer.

Bach said “We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don’t get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you.”

The previous Battlefield game, Bad Company 2, featured an online pass of sorts, called VIP, which gave access to multiplayer and some extra content.

However, it did not limit online gameplay. EA has touted its “Project Ten Dollar” method of getting more revenue from used game sales, by blocking online play to those who buy a used console game.

While this is new for consoles, it has always been the case with PC games, where a cd/dvd key was given out and could only be used once — those who bought the game used could rarely play online.

Digital downloads are even more restrictive, as you can’t sell your digitaly downloaded games.

[h=2]Battlefield 3 system requirements For P.C![/h]
Battlefield 3 is expected to have similar system requirements as the previous Battlefield game, Bad Company 2. Battlefield 3 is powered by the Frostbite 2.0 engine, which is based on the previous Frostbite 1.5, which powered Bad Company 2.
While the Frostbite 2.0 engine has a lot of new features compared to 1.5, it is also more optimized as well, which will most likely result in similar performance and Battlefield 3 system requirements for the PC. Since Battlefield 3 won’t be supporting DirecX 9, it won’t run on Windows XP.

I have all of those specs except the video card which is $159. And my computer is 4 years old. DICE is smart in not trying to market the game by stating, "we are better than COD" They know their game is better, but that would not help the sales. Instead, let people buy in to COD MW3 and they will soon be telling themselves, "****, i should try BF3". BF3 will sell close to 23 million copies by next fall for sure.

We will just have to wait and see which one sells more. Realistically probably about the same since im getting both and I know tons of other cod players that are doing the same

BF3 Will not my friend, the alpha game play on youtube looks much more interesting and appealing to me than MW3.
Everyone knows MW3 will sell more, it's going to happen no if ands or buts.
Everyone who has truly watched all of the BF3 videos and is a true fan knows that the game is all around better with or without more sales than MW3.
