My friend has this HD PVR ( http://store.hauppauge.com/hardware2.asp?product=hd_pvr ) And it says its compatible with up to 1080i.

1080i = 720p

1080p is a whole other class

It would be like 1260i = 1080p or something along those lines.
no 1080i =540p
480i=240p
i=interlaced meaning that only half of the screen is showing at a time
p=progressive meaning that it refreshes the WHOLE screen at the same time

so 1080i/2(for the halves)=540p(Thats the highest it will go at one time)

Record it in 720p, trust me it's better most of these dudes don't know what they're talking about. 720p is not the same as 1080i.

99% of games on the PS3/360 are rendered at 720p. When you set a game to 1080p you are actually upscaling. When you start setting it to 1080i or 1080p then motion lag or flickering can occur on your set. 720p looks incredibly better than 1080i in fast moving scenes, 1080i will only look slightly better if the video was absolutely still depending on what set you have, in my case 720p looks better in fast scenes AND still video with both of my TVS.

PS: M1a1 knows what hes talking about.

exactly that "flickering" is when the two halfs in interlaced swap there are no "pros and cons" interlaced is currently being fazed out by progressive.....the reason that only HDMI supports 1080p is because the data being transfered that "component"(analog) cables cant handle it....if you go talk to any tv or video expert they will tell you that component is getting the very max squeezed out of it at 720p so if your still confused watch this

I was just judging by Cable 1080i looks better than 720p... could just be my set but that's why I said I liked 1080i better... It's an opinion.

if you want to get technical 1080i does not look better, and thats a fact.

To the human eye, at least mine, it does. So therefore I use it instead of 720p. Isn't that a good enough reason? Just because something SHOULD look better, doesn't mean you have to use it, especially since I like 1080i better than 720p.
