My New Viking

After an insanely long day at the Verizon store trying to transfer an AT&T contract to Verizon and almost banging my head off the desk I find a nice little white box waiting for me. I open it up, inspect it, play around with it a little, and finally boot up the PC to update the firmware and play around with some macros. I haven't had a large amount of experience with it yet due to just getting it but I finally transferred numbers to my new phone, have it set up, and jury duty was cancelled for tomorrow so I think that seems like a good day to do some in depth testing. So far I am VERY pleased and can already see potential in it's ability to up my KDR.

First Impression:

The Good:
It ALMOST looks like the controller was designed this way, the software was easy to use, the update was painless, and I was using it within 10 minutes of getting it.

The Bad:
My shiny parts are a little scuffed up... I am not picky so I don't care much but it looks lightly used. I inserted a rechargeable battery pack and the controller refused to function. It would start, work a few minutes, then immediately shut off and not restart. I removed the battery pack, wiped the contacts with my shirt, and inserted the fully charged pack that came with the controller and that seemed to remedy the problem.

The Ugly:
Probably my rep in a few days haha.

Overall, I have to say I am impressed with the controller. The minor scuffs look like marks from the modding process and aren't even visible from far away. It just looks like someone set the parts on a rough surface. The holes are drilled nicely, the mod works flawlessly, the process of updating and loading macros is painless, and the ease of changing the LED colors is so easy a caveman could do it... So far you seem to have turned me into a pure rage filled mod hater to a believer. I like that I have the free will to use mods or simply turn them off... it really makes things easy and thank GOD for page left and right. I am not a HUGE fan of the price but at the same time I got a really nice controller, fast shipping, and amazing potential. I can see myself as a life long customer.

Both battery packs were charging at the same time on the same charging base. They were both fully charged when I attempted to use them. The original wouldn't make a connection until I wiped the terminals off. The issue hasn't come back since I wiped it off so it could have just been something preventing a connection.

OK, glad you fixed the issue.

Hippie,

Thanks for the review. Based on your input we're going to look at laying down some 'foamie' type material on our workbenches. We open all the controller in bulk and lay out all the shells on a hard plastic table. Wondering if this is where the scuffing is? Is it on the back in the same place the controller would touch the table if you were to set it down on your coffee table?

They are minor and only appear on the shiny black pieces like the bottom of the controller on each side of the "grip", just around the sync button, on the bumpers, and a few small marks on the side of one of the triggers. Honestly, it looks like you use a wooden workbench without a finish on it. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw them. I would try to get some pictures of it but I am not sure if I could get them to show up well on my Digital SLR.

I don't think I would really call them "normal" wear and tear areas but I guess it could be a possibility. I mean they definitely don't subtract from the controller in any way. None of them are on areas you can even see during normal play but I could see this possibly scuffing up one of your high end shells which may make people a little crankier since those are really for show more than anything.
