I'm considering purchasing one of these controllers. They appear to be the only controller "on the market" that do what I think I want. To help make my decision, I need another couple questions answered before I buy.

To start, I'm looking at a 360 controller, whichever one's cheapest, I don't care the color.
What I'm trying to accomplish primarily is to max out Reach commendations. There are other things too, but right now, this is the goal.
Setting up certain checkpoints is "my half" of the work, while button presses and resetting to last checkpoint I want to be the controller's half.
If you're not familiar with the game, basically you get points for performing certain tasks, like killing a certain type of enemy, getting headshots, etc.
Anyway, the common method for getting these done (at least in the campaign) is to get to point in a mission where you know a checkpoint is, while primed to do an action. Example: I know there's a check point in front of me, so I have my gun sighted up on a distant enemy's head. When I cross the check point, the game saves and I pull the trigger (RIGHT TRIGGER) . I get credit for the head shot, then hit START (to pause) A (to select "revert to last checkpoint) DOWN on the D-pad (UP also works, either highlights the "Yes, I'm sure" option) then A again (to select). The tricks here are the use of the start button, not commonly used on special controllers, and the timing in waiting for the game to revert. The controller can't just input commands as fast as possible, it has to wait a bit.

So can the controller help here? Can it be set up this way? I may be able to explain better if what I've said already isn't clear enough.

EDIT: Also, I'd like the controller to this while I'm AFK. I want to be able to press a button and walk away. When I come back later, I want to see my 20,000 headshots scored.

This controller can do any macros, including Start.
However, at this time, in the software there is no functionality for editing the start button, but I know with the record feature you can add start.

So basically record the macro, then press it to have your controller replay it. The controller can replay your start button press, but... unfortunately there is no start in the software, so this controller cannot do this while you are AFK.

To do it non-afk, you record you doing what you want your controller to redo, and then press it every time it is done. Read a book, or do something alongside it and repress when necessary.

This controller has the ability to do everything you want, but not advanced of a software to take care of it's abilities currently. The software continues to get updated and add new features.

Currently the software lacks: Start button, Back button, Guide button.

I think you would be able to just put a bit of tape on one of the tact switches (or find a different way to keep the tact switch pressed) and the macro should just constantly repeat itself. (Just like with the turbo knife you just hold it down and the macro will go on forever)

I don't think when you hold a recorded macro it replays. And as I have said above, you can't CREATE a macro on the software and add start, I think the start might lose its functionality once injected into the software. To do AFK macros, yes you can just hold the tact switch down, but I don't think recorded macros that haven't been put back onto the controller.

Then all he would need to do is save the recorded macro as a regular macro and assign it to the tac switch. Then he could just hold it down to have it repeat itself. Or when the new loop software is released he can just make it loop forever.

Anyway as Jets said this won't work until the start button is able to be recorded as a macro.

I believe you CAN record the start button but if you save it as a regular macro, I BELIEVE the software deletes it. I am not 100% certain however. Honestly I should try it.

Yes we just left out Sync Button, Start Button, Guide Button and Select Button from the timeline editor. Will be asking the GUI developer on estimated cost to add a 'vertical scroll bar' along the right-hand side of the editor to add these buttons to the timeline editor. We are at least 2 weeks behind getting our some very anticipated features so no ETA on adding the timeline tracks for the other 4 buttons. These four buttons are indeed connected to the modchip.
