I was wondering...
What is the exact size of of one tact switch?
How much force is required to activate a tact switch?

Not sure exactly... would say 1-2mm (estimate) and it does take a little force, not easily pressed.

I just sat here pressing my tac switch and the B button over and over... .and I would say that the force needed to press it down is about 1.5 times the force to press a regular button down. Like NYJets said, its not easily pressed down, but it kinda is. With the locations of the buttons you don't have to worry about accidentally pressing them, but when you want to hit one, you don't have to force it.

The reason I ask is that there are "caps' that can be placed on the tact switch(es) to make the controller easier to use.

The tac switches are pretty small if you know of someone who has any kind of disability I think our tac switches might be hard to use. Someone here had drawn up sort of a custom button layout with bigger buttons. I'd love to install larger buttons into the controller but we've tried damn near everything and the only buttons small enough that we can fit four on the backside is the 6mm diameter ones we use. (I think they are 6mm diameter)

With a custom layout maybe somebody could figure out how to get some bigger buttons on there, I've seen some amazing custom modded controller. Alas we just spit out cookie cutter stuff out of our shop.

I am disabled myself. I drew up the larger button mockup and am hoping to reconnect with moddedmatt to get a functioning custom Viking made.

I don't believe that you would have to use bigger switches. I have an idea to install a larger cap atop the head of the tact switch thus increasing the surface area making it easier to use.

I've ordered some of the caps you are talking about. I couldn't figure out how to mount the tac switch inside the controller with the oversized caps, and be able to do it mass-produced style. Somebody with time on their hands could definitely figure something out. I read your other post about getting a used unit to work with - whoever opens the controller just tell them to open it carefully and take their time, the trick is to not accidentally rip off the solderless socket when you open the shell!

Thank you for the tip.
