What does Google (bot) mean?

I saw that under the online users thing. What does it mean?

From what i can recall from discussions on other forums is that the Google Bot goes through websites for info so when people search certain things on google.com, this site will come up. Its kind of like adding tags to a youtube video. Say someone searches 'viking' this site might come up

Ya its just a search engine bot.....there is a Yahoo bot that I see here too.

Its not really a "registered user". I dont think you can click on it to see its info am i right? its just an automated bot.

No, you couldn't see it's info, but it was beside me in the registered users spot. Very weird. If it's just for a search engine, why does it show up? Just leave it hidden and don't confuse people.

Honestly I'd like to know the answer to this, apparently we have 50 bots on the forums.

The google bot comes to your site to gather information. It can get to your site either by links from other peoples sites or by your own permission from using google webmaster tools.....

Oh ok I saw the list of bots, yes it's most search engine type bots. All the bots have zero access on our site right now. I just enabled the google bot only. I only believe in google. Any other bot is probably just trying to steal information or post spam or something.
