Think of it this way. Get a 100x100 image or whatever size you want, and put it in photoshop, zoom in by 150%.
You just expanded some pixels.
OR
Take a balloon, draw an image or write a letter or something while it is deflated, then inflate it, it expands and it screwes up the image a little bit.
