I don't have a Macro controller so not sure if this will work but worth a try.
Since pistols are your secondary (most the time) it would make sense for this macro.
When you have your primary weapon, using your mod with it is not the best idea (unless it's a single fire weapon) so instead of going through the hassle of turning your mod on/off all the time, have a macro that will do that for you every time you switch to your pistol and vice versa.
Press Y + Mod on, Press Y + Mod off
