I was looking at some of the images at: https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=38946.0 and was intrigued by the clip part of the design. This part would be extremely useful both in both messing around with the controller as well as other projects. Is it possible to find these IC clips somewhere?

We ran out of stock from the supplier we were buying from in China. We looked into doing our own production of the clips instead. We have the clips themselves, pins to insert into the clips, but no way to quickly insert the pins (doing it by hand takes hours per clip). The automated machine to insert pins runs upwards of $80-$100k. Next time we have 6 figures laying around, we will be purchasing the pin insertion machine and go into production on these IC clips.
Well actually it used to be but then we all realized it's not necessary in most cases. You can actually scrape the black conductive epoxy stuff off the XYBA/back/start buttons to reveal copper then attach a small wire to that, route it a certain way and it shouldn't interfere with pressing the buttons. For triggers and joysticks you can solder onto the through-hole pin coming off of them. Etc. So you can actually get it where you don't need to scrape any vias or traces to connect to all the buttons.
