I think you may be confused. A hammer can have either a pnc modification or a 3.5 mm jack modification. So can the Raven and Hand. To answer your question, it is not the pnc cord that is modded, but it is the port that is modded.

I don't think it's that the hand can't have the 3.5mm jack, I think they just don't bother.

It actually mods the pnc port inside the controller (the cable remains 'stock'). But basically you can only dock n' charge after we've modified the PnC port inside. If you want to be able to play n' charge, best to go with the 3.5mm jack option.
