if you have fast reload on and you try to drive a tank you can't drive it, you hit X and it puts you in the turrent only way to drive it is not to use fast reload.

if you have the sleeper you could always hold left trigger and tap the sync that turns fast reload off and when you get back out turn it back on it will be in the previous mode that you where in
