I didn't verify any of this information myself.... also if you are a JTAG'ger I'm sure there's something in this update for you (there almost always is)

Xbox LIVE Dashboard update:

On Wednesday, January 19th we will issue a mandatory dashboard update that (re) enables the ‘Boot to Disc’ option in the Xbox 360 dashboard. After you accept the update, you’ll be able to set the option to boot to the Xbox 360 dashboard OR directly to the game you have in the tray when you power up your console. This option can be found in the System Settings.

Xbox.com update:

Additionally, on Thursday January 20th the Xbox.com team will ship an update that contains a small update to the Gamercards. We’ve updated the Gamercard look and feel a bit and removed gamerzone from the card. Other than that, the same amount of information is on the card.

Shouldn't affect jtags anymore than the last update did. We haven't been able to get online since the kinect dashboard update anyway. I don't use discs with my jtag so this is a non issue. I haven't updated my flashed console yet because I want to wait and see what happens. I checked my console with xval today and my sec data was clean so I'm not flagged or anything on it.

Awful for a lot of jtaggers and flashed xboxers, thanks for the link M1A1.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about because I don't see how this is awful? The update doesn't really do much to people with flashed 360s, the update only activates non AP2.5 titles. This is an AP2.5 Update so naturally this does not affect non AP2.5 DVD drives (Early Hitachi & Samsung) since they can't peform any AP2.5 checks,
AP2.5 has been added to the following games with this update (so far):
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Halo: Reach
What this means is, if you have a flashed drive with LT+, these games will not load and will load a black screen.(This is good and it means that LT+ is doing its job)
If you had LT+ flashed then you will NOT be flagged for a possible ban.
There will be no need for a firmware update, It will be as easy as patching and re-burning.
It's safe to update.

Sorry, said it wrong.

Yes you are correct, this isn't too big of a deal. After about a week I'm sure flashed xbox people can play black ops, mw2, etc, online again no problem.

You can still play your originals just not backups, patches should be out by at least the end of the day, if not tomorrow morning (not a week). This isn't a problem for me since I have originals for all my backups.

c4eva has just acknowleged that there were hidden anti piracy 2.5 checks activated on some of the newer games, they have found the checks and are now creating patches for them. They say a firmware update is not needed(and if you had lt+ you had the 3 minute black screen) , they say a firmware update is not needed, but you shouldnt update the dash, just to be safe.

This update crashed for me last night halfway thru. After I turned my xbox back on, I couldn't connect to xbox live anymore. I'm really pissed because my xbox had a ton of cosmetic work done on it and I can't be asked to go thru it all again(it is not flashed I should add, no modded software here). apparently this update had been causing a lot of problems for people in general.

Supposedly there it's going to a patch for this out today, but I have no idea how I'm going to download it if I can't connect to live lol.

look on how to update via usb. I believe you download the update to a usb drive and hold the sync button as you power up your 360. Its suppose to boot straight to the usb and install. I remember having to do it to my jtags to get them to dash 7371.

Well this update did a little more then that still. Read this posted on kotaku.com

Seems like that innocent little Xbox 360 update yesterday wasn't just to restore the option to boot the console straight to a disc. It also contained secret pirate-fighting juice.

Now that it's been mentioned, it did seem a little strange that the update came out of nowhere. And for such a tiny fix clocked in at 7mb.

But then people who had been using pirated copies of Call of Duty (both Black Ops and Modern Warfare) installed the update and found their pirated copies didn't work anymore, and it all made sense.

Yeah, but ap25 patches just came out for all these games and its all good again. Patches arent integrated into abgx360 yet, but just use ppfomatic to patch the games. It was on the ones you said, and halo reach.

heres the link if you want it.(delete if not allowed on the forums. I know its pushing piracy)

It's not piracy if you own the originals and I really don't see why Microsoft decided to do this since it does not effect anyone that is on LT+. It only screws people who were still on LT 1.1 and below since people thought It was safe to play any game without AP2.5. Fable 3, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit were the first to have the new AP2.5 and people with LT 1.1 thought they were safe to stay away from those games and a few new ones that have the AP2.5 in them until yesterdays update. Now anyone who has played any of these games (MW2,B.O, Reach) after yesterdays update are pretty much flagged for a banned. This is why you ALWAYS update to newest firmware, which most people are on. LT+ will not boot up games if AP2.5 is not present, which keeps you safe since It will not log this and give you a black screen. All new games that come out now have AP2.5 so this is why you have to update firmware ASAP.

PS love how people repeat basically the same thing I said already..

Doesn't matter now anyway, everything is back to normal. People just need to run their bo, mw2, and reach, through abgx again and then burn and they will all work.
